Subaru is a renowned Japanese automotive brand, which beyond the architectural program of the project, undoubtedly refers us to Japanese design and engineering, obsessed with details, rituals and traditions but also with technology, calculation and innovation. This apparently contradictory duality that inhabits Japanese constructions is an essential part of what we wanted to present in our proposal.
Frampton pointed out that: "Starting from the hypothesis that the relative autonomy of the built form was both structure and construction and creation and articulation of space. (
We must try) to recover the notion of the 19th century of tectonics, in an effort to resist the current tendency to remain only in the scenographic effects ". Later he writes:" We must return above all to the structural unit, as the irreducible essence of the form. " Our Subaru agency project seeks to allude to this structural unit in which the tectonics and construction details inspired by Japanese sanctuaries themselves form the articulation of space.
